BASKET TWIST FIRE SET

This custom-designed fire set has three legs so that firm footing is always assured. The shaft of the stand is slightly 'bellied' forward to shift the weight of the hanging tools directly over the center of gravity. The shaft has a decorative full 360 degree twist just above midpoint, and a basket twist at the top. The handles for the poker and shovel echo that motif with decorative twists and slightly narrower basket twists that fit nicely in the user's hand. The four strands that make up the basket twists on each of the tool handles are forge welded into a solid, tapered tang and bent into terminal hooks. The tools hang from double inward-curving hooks, and a third hook hangs behind and slightly lower on the stand for a whisk broom. All are wrapped with 3/16" rod stock to complete the appearance. A free-pivot medallion hangs at the front, below the wrapping, displaying my touchmark - my 'steel signature'. The curved top of the rear hook bears the same touchmark impression. Poker terminates in a Colonial Eagle's Beak with a projecting spine. Shovel terminates in an embellished Colonial spade. Stand is 40 inches tall; shovel and poker are 28 inches long.

RIBBON ARM FIRE SET

This elegant and unique fire set had a three leg stance that would find a firm footing no matter where you put it. The main stem of the stand had two post legs collared at the base, and a massive length of hammered ribbon wrapping upward toward the twisted top piece. The ribbon stretched outward, with small hooks for the fire tools. There were three tools with this set; a poker, a shovel, and a set of "old world" fire tongs. All three tool handles were twisted, terminating in hammered leaves. The stand was 4 feet high with the 12-inch ribbon "arm" at 3.5 feet high.

TWO-ARM FIRE SET

The two arching arms of this fire set were twisted together to form the stand, branching out at the bottom into two post legs. The rear leg, terminating in a hammered spiral, was attached to the stand with a traditional collar. A small hook was mounted in the back for a whisk broom. The shovel and poker had twisted loop handles, each terminating in an ornamental leaf which matched the leaf on the stand. Stand was 3 feet high.

FIREPLACE TOOLS - SHOVEL OR POKER

Fire tools made for an existing fire set stand. Both the shovel and the poker had twisted loop handles, with the end terminated in a hammered leaf.  Both were about 30 inches long.  Handles were made of either 1/2-inch round steel stock (shown) or lighter 3/8-inch round steel.
